An installation that may not have been*: “Alice Don’t Cry (from stories of the new people)”

A love story of a 24 years old actress, recorded on audiotapes and illustrated with Instagram pictures. The principal objects of the installation are a photograph of the heroine on a car hood, taken by herlover, and her copy of Chernyshevsky’s novel What Is to Be Done? with pages torn out.

First-person narratives in which an experience of living through a love story is tied to reading What Is to Be Done?, philosophy of coincidence, reminiscences of and (romantic) phantasies about/from the 1990s;reflection about one’s own place within modernity, about the new people,and more.

* During the preparation of the records the artist set forward a condition: “I’ve made a decision: I will not participate in the graduation show unless I have your picture on the car hood. And no one will know that I’ve been working on this project. The fact that he took the picture but hasn’t yet sent it to you is the only thing that still connects you two together. I believe that art – art of telling stories and listening all the more so – must create shifts, albeit miniscule, and bring along circulation in/of the reality itself. Otherwise it is simply boring.”
