“Understand”
Organic glass, acrylic, mirror, newspaper, light.
The work was created in January 2014, was presented at the exhibition “Nevrossia” in February-March 2014 in CCI “Fabrika”.
This work is a representation of author’s life position, self-determination problems that worry her in the world full of violence, and the importance of the School of Engaged Art in this matter. Despite the fact that the product bears in itself the features of a self-portrait, the problems touched in it concern each of us, which adds some “applied” meaning. The installation is a triptych, where each panel represents the resistance phase to surrounding reality negative aspects – “Perception”, “Reflection”, “Action”.
“Perception”. It tells about the surrounding reality absorbing through the pieces of depressing reports and images, inspired by people’s everyday life observation. A retrospective look.
“Reflection”. Experience understanding. Setting questions and finding problem solving ways. Nowadays self-determination.
“Action”. Waiting for the next step and possible qualitative change through images of freedom. A look into the future.
The pieces of the broken mirror are used, as this artwork is designed to reflect surrounding world images. This was also done in order to help a viewer to get rid of superfluous prejudices and moral self-violence associated with it. The execution technique (imitation of stained glass) and the form of presentation were chosen mostly from the desire to reflect some kind of personal statement sacralization.
